Greedy? …it’s ok …I am!

Nowadays everybody is kind of aware of healthcare and wellness; trying his best to stay in shape or whatever. Nowadays every smartphone has an activity tracking or a wearable technologies that does the job. Nowadays everybody ( i hope ) know one Healthcare-related mobile apps…

The Wellness institute

The Wellness Institute wants to explore how they can leverage technology to help people live a healthier life.

The institute defines wellness as an active process through which people try to improve or maintain their well-being. But they noticed that despite the vast availability of personal metrics and health apps, people continue to struggle.

THE CHALLENGE

Designers will do user research, develop a prototype, pitch their ideas, and the winning concept will be developed into the first digital tool that the institute will offer.

The criteria on which the institute will choose the winner are:

  • The relevance of the solution according to user needs
  • The thoroughness & completeness of the functionalities
  • The overall design desirability
  • The versatility of your design system (to be applied on future apps)
  • the app will track the users progress and push them to commit to a healthier life

HIIT FOOD

{ AN APPLICATION FOR THOSE WHO WANTS TO CHALLENGE THEMSELVES BY DOING SHORT FITNESS EXERCISES WHILE COOKING HEALTHY RECIPES}

PLANNING

First of all, Anais Jardin( teammate ) and “moi meme” have 9 days to come with an MVP. We’ve outlined the methods and steps that needed to be taken by doing a UX STRATEGY:

Discovery: Secondary research

Surveys / FITNESS User groups / Market analysis

Define: Primary research

JTBD interviews / Interested fitness app users

Develop: Brief

Empathy map / problem statement / Ideation = Information Architecture (IA)

Delivery: Design

Low fidelity Mock-up / MID FI wireframes / Prototype / users usability and heuristics.

DISCOVERY

In order to know where we were heading, we analysed the global fitness app market. It was in fact not that hard to find relevant datas because the smartphone and wearable techs is flourishing as the fitness app:

It showed us that the market is going exponential for the next 7 years to come.

We conducted a survey and put it on facebooks fitness and running groups (hoping for some charitable hearts to help us). By the end of Tuesday , we received more than 200 answers .

We found out that stress is a big factor to motivate people to commit to sport.

DEFINE

We continue our investigations with primary research and JOB TO BE DONE INTERVIEWS with fitness coaches/ fitness club addicts/ sport journalist.

The outcomes were:

  • they do sport because they must otherwise they don’t feel good
  • they are greedy so they do sport to stay in shape
  • they do sport but they don’t care as long as they are not sick or in bad shape ( they don’t care about healthcare haha!)
  • sharing with friends is a big motivator.

DEVELOP

Gathering all of our datas, i have been able to built an empathy map to come with the PAIN POINTS.

  • people don’t really have time to do fitness exercises
  • People needs a human contact ( even more considering Covid situation)
  • People does sport regularly to relive their stress

IDEATION

We started the ideation process by coming up with HMW statements, looking for solutions to the users pain points.the goal is tool is to come up with as many solutions as possible, and evaluate which ones of these will have the highest impact while being of minimal effort to deploy.

All of this led us to the INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE and USER FLOW where we focused more on the challenge sharing part with friends.

Worst ideas and Crazy 8 rounds

This is a great and funny way to put as many ideas on the table as our brain can; leaving us a few minutes to draw ideas / breath/ re draw ideas/ share and re do that again until we satisfied with the results .

FEATURE PRIORITISATION

All of this craziness bring us to feature prioritisation

The purpose is to find the features that wont take to much time and energy to design and help us come up with my minimal viable product (MVP).

DELIVERY

LOW FI / MID FI WIREFRAMING

Now that we had all the features we began drawing low fi wireframes and because we were a bit late on schedule , we jumped immediately on the mid fi.

the USABILITY TESTING part with 5 people gave us enough feedbacks to focus improving the structure and the interface design.

“FUN , SHARE AND CHALLENGE”

These are the BRAND ATTRIBUTES that represent our application .So it was time to work on the MOOD BOARD to search for inspiring photos , textures and others colours that could gave us a lead for the prototype .

We went for strong colour like orange that makes you want to move your body, have fun ,the energy, the challenge. The green to reconnect with yourself and your friends, peaceful and sharing. the blue to remind you of commit because it’s good.

I design a logo “HIIT FOOD” in this guide system where you can find the buttons, icons, types of fonts etc…

PROTOTYPE

From here I was able to move into my final design and my High Fidelity model.

NEXT STEPS

What is next? …Users usability because unfortunately we didn’t have time to do so. Creating filters for recipes as vegan and gluten-free, work a lot on accessibility because in the end … to much colours and shadows…

There is still a lot of place for improvement !!

This has been a very fun project but also very hard. Primary and secondary researches tough me a lot about a subject i did not even had interest for.

My favourite part is the interface and logo design and i know i really need to work on not being guiding by my emotions…

Thanks for checking out my post! Please feel free to provide comments or feedback below — I’m always looking for ways to become a better designer!

…and dont forget to squat when you cook !
